Brian Lima, M.D.
Brian Lima, M.D. is originally from Kearny, New Jersey. He received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. Dr. Lima completed his general surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center followed by a cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at The Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. During this time, he received numerous academic and research awards. He has practiced with Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons since 2012 and is board-certified by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Lima specializes in adult cardiothoracic surgery. His interests include surgical management of heart failure, including transplantation and ventricular assist devices, along with aortic surgery, valvular surgery, and coronary artery bypass grafting.
He has presented and published several abstracts, peer-reviewed articles, and book chapters in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. Most recently, Dr. Lima co-authored “Unplanned Hospital Readmissions After HeartMate II Implantation” which was published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He also co-authored an executive summary titled “Aortic Valve and Ascending Aorta Guidelines for Management and Quality Measures”, published in the Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Lima is an active member in the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Sabiston Surgical Society, Sarnoff Cardiovascular Research Foundation, International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation as well as the Travis County Medical Society. In addition, he has been named by his peers to the Super Doctors ® Rising Stars 2013 list.
